We all have times when we feel down and struggle to believe in ourselves. It's more common than you might think. But if thoughts of low self-esteem become a habit you will see its impact on every aspect of your life, from your career to relationships and even your health.
Your low self-esteem can be improved, so here are some ways to raise your confidence, and turn your life around.
1. Work on Your Self Talk
Have you recognized that the source of your low self-esteem is because you haven’t accepted yourself for who you are? Improving your confidence starts from an introspective understanding that you are worth more than what your thoughts tell you.
Everyone has thoughts that betray them, telling us we are not good enough or attractive enough. This self-inflicted torment doesn't stop unless you are active in combating it. The first step to feeling good about yourself is to quiet that negative voice in your mind.
Differentiate facts and feelings. Are your negative beliefs objectively true? They are usually not.
Value yourself accurately and don’t limit your ability to see the truth. Remember that your insecurities and doubts only live inside your head, and they don’t have the power to take control unless you let them.
2. Embrace your uniqueness
Start to think of yourself as one of a kind. There is no one else like you, every quirk, flaw, or character trait was put designed by the universe for a purpose.
Take note of all your positive traits and assess them with love.
3. Choose Gratitude
Then take note of everything you are grateful for, no matter how small.
You can write this in a journal that you can refer to whenever you’re feeling low. Keep repeating these statements of gratitude for little things as a mantra to create positive internal self-talk.
4. Acknowledge What You Can Control
Be kind to yourself and acknowledge that you are pulling yourself back up during a difficult time.
Don't ruminate over what you can't control. You can only control your response. If all else fails, mediate to get back in tune with your higher self
Remember to look for lessons in your mistakes and use them as motivation to grow and improve your perception of yourself.
All your negatives can be changed into positives, the only difference is your attitude.
5. Stop Comparing With Others
Have you heard the saying comparison is the thief of joy?
How often are you comparing yourself to others? Remember that you only see what other people allow you to see. If you knew all the hidden struggles of the people you admire or envy. You would rarely want to swap your situation for theirs.
Realize your own capabilities and double down on them. Focus on your own lane and being better than you were yesterday. It’s your race to run.
Remember that if you think you can do it, you are right. If you think you can’t, you are right too.
